Social Login and GDPR | Amasty

Case description and configurations

We wanted to make it possible for customers to sign in or create new accounts via a popup with social login options and accept consent checkboxes right in the popup.

Social Login. We configured Social Login to offer Google and Facebook options for login and registration specifying all the required details:

In the general settings of our Social Login, we added the social buttons to the bottom of the Login Popup and default customer login and registration pages, determined their shape and set the logic of the extension behavior after customers sign in:

GDPR (we’ll review the functionality of the extension in terms of Social Login popup only). We added the consent checkboxes for customers to read and accept Personal Data Processing, Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy right to the registration popup with the help of the GDPR extension. Both Social Login and GDPR work synergistically and allow adding checkboxes to the popup registration form.

Settings of the Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy checkbox:

Personal Data Processing checkbox:

We configured both extensions once, no further control is required from our side until we’d like to change the logic of their behavior.

Benefits the extension provides for clients and admins

The functionality urges customers to register due to the convenient and quick steps. Moreover, as Amasty website doesn’t allow guest checkout, the social popup helps to avoid possible cart abandonment in cases when customers are not willing to create new accounts due to the time-consuming process.
Admins can also track the statistics for each social media option on the Customers grid:

Customizations

We customized the design of the popup (slight changes in colors and layout) to fit the overall theme of the website and moved the My Social Accounts section to the Account Dashboard tab in the user account.

Examples of the results

The login popup appears after the click on the Log in button. Customers are able to sign in using email address and password details or via Google and Facebook using the corresponding social buttons:

For creating a new account, customers are also offered regular user details fields or social media options for their choice. Consent checkboxes for Personal Data Processing, Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy are added to the registration form:
